Homeschool Resources for Music

Homeschooling while incorporating music doesn’t have to be overwhelming during this COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some resources for our students and other parents in the community to help out. Make sure to follow our Facebook page for some online sessions and classes during the next two weeks as well!

If your kids are already in music lessons, challenge them to do this bingo game over the school break. We will have prizes for students who return to the studio with bingo rows or columns and extra special prizes for students who achieve a BLACKOUT bingo!

Each activity counts for one square – so every time you practice, you get to color in one square. Send your teacher updates or show them your bingo board during your online lesson!

Use your Tonic Tutor subscription

Oconee Music provides all private students with a subscription to use Tonic Tutor for music theory. Each student is able to log-in from any web browser and complete games and assignments in their weekly lesson. This is a great chance to learn more about music and do extra music theory games!

Do an at-home improv exercise

Here is a piano backing track in C major. Put this on, tap the beat and practice making up your own melody!

Beginners: use 2-3 notes (CD or CDE) and keep a steady quarter or half note beat

Intermediate: use 4-5 notes (CDEFG) and play with different rhythm patterns

More Advanced: use all the notes in C scale and use some complex rhythms – (triplets, grace notes, etc)

Use Youtube Tutorials

Youtube has so many beginner to advanced tutorials – try searching for a favorite song/artist plus your instrument and tutorial. For example: “Frozen 2 easy piano tutorials” or “Don’t Stop Believing guitar tutorials”

This is a fun way to use your extra time while out of school and you can even share this achievement with your teacher at your online lesson!

Follow our channel and we’ll be uploading student videos, free tutorials and online classes as well as linking to some of our favorite tutorials over the next couple of weeks.
