Making great strides in both performance and music education, violist Sarah Cornett has appeared in ensembles across the country and holds a K-12 Music Teacher Certification. Most recently, Ms. Cornett was the violist in the Elysian String Quartet of which she was also a founding member. While a part of this ensemble, she performed in educational outreach concerts at schools across Lubbock, Texas and a variety of other community engagements. As an orchestral musician, Ms. Cornett has performed with the Eastern Festival Orchestra, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, and the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. As a private teacher, she has held studios of elementary through high school students in both Ann Arbor, Michigan and Lubbock, Texas.
Sarah earned her Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Michigan in Viola Performance with a K-12 Music Teacher Certification where she studied with Detroit Symphony violist, Caroline Coade. During her undergraduate studies, she became proficient in all four of the orchestral string instruments with a focus on viola and violin. She holds a Master of Music degree from Texas Tech University where she studied with Dr. Kimberly Sparr. While earning her masters degree, Sarah was the head viola studio Teaching Assistant and the Head Librarian for the Orchestral Studies department.
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Sarah is enjoying living in Athens, Georgia where she can be closer to family. In addition to playing viola, Cornett enjoys running races and hiking.
Sarah joins the Oconee Music family in August of 2019 offering violin lessons and viola lessons and is the developer of our custom, in-house curriculum. We are looking forward to creating an orchestra instrument program at Oconee Music with her assistance.
